If you missed our event on the 6th July, there is another opportunity to experience dinghy sailing on the 10th August from 12pm to 5pm. Just turn up on your own or with friends and family and one of our members will be very pleased to take you out on the water. There is no charge for this, we just want others to enjoy the fun of sailing and appreciate how easy it is to access this sport. Do not say that you are too old- the club have members from age ten to age eighty.
Dates for your diary
A reminder to our members that our annual regatta will be held on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of September. There will be six races; three on each day, two discards so four to count. If you intend to sail please sign up on the noticeboard. The sailing club has exclusive use of the water for the weekend.
Have you ever looked at those white sails scudding across the water and thought “that looks fun”? Well come and try it for yourself. Upton Warren Sailing Club is holding an open evening on Saturday 6th July starting at 5pm. Maybe you have never sailed before? Maybe you sailed many years ago and fancy getting back on the water? Whichever come to the Aztec Adventure Centre opposite Webbs of Wychbold and get out on the water with some of our experienced sailors.
Step aboard the new Pamela May 2 for a gentle cruise along the canal from Droitwich to Hanbury Wharf. Take a picnic lunch or eat at the Eagle and Sun and return along the same route to arrive back mid/late afternoon. There is lots to see and many locks to negotiate en-route. Places are limited so to book yours contact Geof Briscoe firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Gareth Brookes is asking for a member of the sailing club to help him man a RYA stand at the Three Counties Show in Malvern for the weekend of 15th / 16th June. He particularly needs a volunteer for the Saturday. As well as promoting sailing, you should be able to get into the show for free.
The Friday evening disability sailing sessions for the 2019 season are from Friday 3rd May to Friday 6th September starting at 17:30 and ending around 20:30. Last year was our most successful to date with an average of 25 attending each Friday, and this year we are trying to improve on that. For members who volunteered to help last year, thank you so much and we hope you can again help out in this coming season.
For those thinking of coming along then here is an outline of what assistance is needed to run the sessions.
Helping to fit buoyancy jackets.
Launching and recovering dinghies.
Helping participants into and out of the dinghies.
Helming the cruisers.
Helming the ‘wheely’ boat.
Providing safety cover in the ribs.
It is a very busy evening with three 45 min sailing slots, and we need a minimum of 4 volunteers to run the sessions but more hands spread the work load. You do not have to attend for all of the evening, any time that you can spare is appreciated.
If you can assist, please let the Vice Commodore, John Everard know in advance so that he is confident that each session is covered. Volunteering counts towards your Aztec Duties.
John Bowen is looking for helpers for Push the Boat out which is being held in the evening this year: 4 to 8pm on Saturday 11th May. He needs safety boat drivers and assistants, helms for bahias and cruisers, members to hand out buoyancy aids and help catch and launch dinghies, and members to man a desk to greet our visitors. You can sign up to volunteer for each of these tasks on a sheet pinned to the club noticeboard. Alternatively email John directly (see the Contacts page for his email address). Volunteering counts towards your Aztec duties.
